On September 25, 1998, Hurricane “Georges” caused extensive damage to the Island Restaurant on Big Coppitt Key, Florida. Following inspections and opinion by three different adjusters hired by the insurer, all of which were woefully inadequate, Charles R. “Dick” Tutwiler was retained as the appraiser/arbitrator on behalf of the Island Restaurant. As a result of the appraisal/arbitration process, the Island Restaurant recovered an additional payment above the carrier’s offer of $97,284.00 or a 70% increase.
