Hurricane Irma struck South Florida as a Cat 1 hurricane. Even though it was downgraded from a Cat 3 hurricane, it still caused significant damage throughout Florida. Our client, who is a resident of Switzerland, sustained damage to their high rise condominium penthouse located in Miami Beach, Florida. Window seals were blown out of the luxurious top floor penthouse allowing water, driven by high winds, to enter the unit on both floors staining the stone flooring and causing other damages to the home.
The insurance carrier made a quick inspection and confirmed the damage, but only wanted to pay for the replacement of stone around some of the windows. The client notified their law firm in Miami who represented the family interests in the U.S. Tutwiler & Associates was recommended and retained to manage the property claim. The Tutwiler team quickly brought in a team of experts including a stone/marble expert from out-of-state, documented the claim and started a dialogue with the insurance carrier. Subsequent negotiations resulted in a settlement that was ten (10) times higher than the first offer made by the insurance company, assuring the damage to this beautiful property was properly restored.
