On February 2^nd at the Windstorm Insurance Conference in Orlando, I along with Janet Brown, Esq., Boehm, Brown & Harwood, P.A.; Wayne Taylor, Esq., Mozley, Finlayson & Loggins, LLP; and Art Newman, Belfor USA will be conducting the 4 hour WIND Certified Umpire Recertification® class. Umpires must be recertified every 3 years so this workshop is designed to provide an interactive learning experience. Real-life scenarios will be utilized to promote discussion of the duties and responsibilities of the umpire. Common issues and problems that often arise during an appraisal will be addressed, as well as effective methods and techniques to facilitate an appraisal from beginning to conclusion. The workshop will also include a discussion of ethical considerations and changes in case law impacting the appraisal process.

Janet and Wayne will be conducting the legal case law up-date while Art and I will provide the class with real life case studies and some hypotheticals to facilitate interactive problem solving using the knowledge these umpires have gained.  If anyone in the insurance space has any knowledge regarding situations or problems related to appraisal or umpiring that we could re-purpose as a question for the class, we would appreciate it if you could share it with us.
